Sonoma County gets new Superior Court judge

Barbara Phelan’s appointment fills the seat vacated by the retirement of Judge Raima H. Ballinger.|

Gov. Jerry Brown Wednesday announced the appointment of Barbara Phelan as Sonoma County’s newest Superior Court judge.

Phelan, 57, has been a judicial staff attorney at the First District Court of Appeal in San Francisco since 2003, and is filling a seat vacated by the retirement of Judge Raima H. Ballinger.

The Glen Ellen resident earned her law degree from the University of California Hastings College of Law and her undergraduate degree from UCLA.

She is a registered Democrat.
