With the spotlight on President Trump's "zero-tolerance policy," which calls for the prosecution of all individuals who illegally enter the United States, the news site ProPublica shared a map with the 99 locations of child immigrant detention centers across the United States, some close to Sonoma County.

A collection of federal facilities and nonprofits are holding the separated children, in addition to the 8,886 children who crossed the border alone and were detained before the policy was announced, according to The Washington Post.

Here are the centers where children are being held near Sonoma County:

BCFS Health and Human Services in Fairfield (Solano County)

According to its website, BCFS is a global nonprofit with focuses in health and human services. The facility in Fairfield has an unknown capacity, but according to the Solano County Assessor's office, the building sits on 1.07 acres. The building itself looks like a warehouse from satellite view on Google Maps.

Southwest Key Program in Pleasant Hill (Contra Costa County)

Southwest Key made headlines recently when reporters from The New York Times discovered an old Walmart in Brownsville, Texas being used to house an estimated 1,500 children. The program center in Pleasant Hill only holds 30, much fewer than the Brownsville location. In response to national outcry, Southwest Key added a statement on its website, insisting that “Southwest Key Programs does not support separating families at the border.”

International Christian Adoptions Foster Care Center in Citrus Heights (Sacramento County)

This location also is part of the Unaccompanied Refugee Minor Program, but the capacity of the facility and other information pertaining to its holding of young immigrants is unclear.

Yolo County Detention Facility in Woodland (Yolo County)

According to a report from The Mercury News, officials in Yolo County accepted $2.25 million from the federal government to continue holding young immigrants. It does not hold those separated from their parents forcibly under Trump's separation policy, it holds minors who crossed the border alone. ProPublica reports on its mapping website that the facility has the capacity to hold 90 children.

Curious as to how ProPublica got this information? Here is how they did it.
