A 70-year-old Rio Nido man walking on River Road was struck and killed by a motorcyclist Tuesday afternoon, the CHP said.

The man didn’t see the motorcycle coming as he tried to cross the street just east of Orchard Road in Guerneville about 1:55 p.m., CHP said.

The motorcyclist, identified as 28-year-old Geno Quecke of Petaluma, hit his brakes and swerved into the center turn lane of River Road but was unable to avoid the man, CHP said. The victim hasn’t been identified pending notification of his next of kin.

The man was pronounced dead at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital. Quecke was transported to the same hospital for minor to moderate injuries.

CHP Lt. Diana Johnson said alcohol or drugs aren’t believed to be a factor in the crash.
