The Sonoma County Library will have a new interim director starting next week, the system announced Thursday.

Susan Hildreth, who recently concluded a nearly two-year stint as the inaugural distinguished practitioner in residence at the University of Washington’s Information School, will step into her new role Monday.

Hildreth’s appointment by the County Library Commission comes more than a month after then-interim director Tracy Gray left to become the library services director for the city of Mountain View.

During her time at the University of Washington in Seattle, Hildreth taught, helped develop curriculum and researched the future of libraries.

She served from 2011 to 2015 as director of the Washington, D.C.-based Institute of Museum and Library Services, a position she was appointed to by former President Barack Obama.

Hildreth also is a fellow at the Aspen Institute and treasurer of the American Library Association.

She previously was the city librarian in Seattle and San Francisco and state librarian of California, among other roles.
