Woman who died on Novato SMART tracks ID’d

The 72-year-old woman who appears to have taken her life Monday morning when she was struck by a Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit train near Novato has been identified as Novato resident Marcia Eleanor Fisher.

Fisher had lived in Marin County dating to at least 2008, at addresses in the town of Fairfax, according to public records. She died shortly after being hit by a southbound train about 5:48 a.m. just north of the Hamilton Station in Novato while crawling on the tracks, Novato police Capt. Jim Correa said.

The investigation into her death remains open, with Novato police and the Marin County Sheriff’s Office working together on the case. As of Thursday, Fisher’s death remains what appears the result of her purposeful actions and was not accidental, said Roger Fielding, chief deputy coroner in Marin County.
