Injury crash blocks Bodega Avenue
A sedan and a dump truck crashed head-on Tuesday morning, causing the sedan to catch fire and sending its driver to the hospital, authorities said.
Bodega Avenue was closed for about three hours after the 10:45 a.m. crash, which happened just east of Middle Two Rock Road, as crews cleared the vehicles and cleaned oil spilled from the impact.
James Compton, 66, of Benicia was eastbound in a Nissan Altima and crossed into the path of a two-axle dump truck hauling boulders, CHP Officer Kimberly Lemons said.
As the sedan was catching fire, passersby pulled the injured driver out of the severely damaged car, Wilmar Fire Chief Mike Mickelson said.
Compton was taken by ambulance to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital with moderate injuries. Dump truck driver Albert Carusillo, 71, of Healdsburg wasn’t injured.
