A hot air balloon made a safe, but dramatic, landing at Sequoia Elementary School in Santa Rosa early Tuesday, the whole thing caught on camera by a surprised area resident.

“I was just about to move over to read the comics, when I heard this odd sound coming from above," said Mark Freeland, who was sitting eating breakfast and reading the newspaper at his home near Calistoga Road.

He rushed outside to see the balloon coming down through the clouds.

"People in the gondola seemed surprised they hit the fog bank. They were two telephone poles high from my house, I've never seen a balloon that low by our house. He was a good pilot, he got them down safely in the fog, seemed like he really knew the area well," he said.
