National school board organization tours Santa Rosa schools

About two dozen school board members from across the country toured Santa Rosa schools this week as part of a National School Boards Association tradition of holding annual meetings in its president’s hometown.

Longtime Santa Rosa school board member Frank Pugh, 63, is the current president of the association, which has about 90,000 members nationwide who advocate for public education and equity.

“These people are brilliant,” said Pugh, who’s running for reelection against challenger Omar Medina.

The organization’s board of directors toured Monday the Santa Rosa French-American Charter School, Santa Rosa High School and Santa Rosa Charter School for the Arts.

“The board has been eager to tour these schools and see the programs firsthand,” Thomas Gentzel, the association’s executive director, said in a statement. “These types of visits give the board a broader view of education across the country.”
