SEAL BEACH - Doughnuts are flying off the shelves at a small business near Los Angeles as customers try to help the owner make time to visit his ailing wife.

KABC-TV says John Chhan has greeted customers at Donut City in Seal Beach every day for the last 30 years. But last month, Chhan's wife, Stella, suffered a brain aneurysm. She's recovering in a nursing facility.

Chhan, who starts work at 4:30 a.m., was at the shop for long hours so customers decided they wanted to give him more time to visit his wife.

The station says they've been coming in and snatching up doughnuts by the dozens. On Thursday, the trays were cleaned out by 10:30 a.m., allowing Chhan to close the shop.

Chhan says he's grateful beyond words.
