Paradise resident saves horse from pool, just in time

At some point as the Camp fire tore through Butte County this past week, a Paradise resident's horse became stuck in a covered swimming pool.

But this story has a happy ending, as shared on a viral Facebook post.

Jeffrey Hill, a Paradise resident, found the horse Sunday as he was going through his friend's property to see if the house was still standing. Hill and his friend, Geoff Sheldon, whose father owned the pool, found the struggling, shivering horse trapped in the pool cover. She had a "look of defeat in her eyes," Hill wrote.

Hill said he has no idea how long the horse was stuck in the pool cover, writing that “there's no telling how long she was there but she was shivering uncontrollably and ultimately lost her fight."

With the help of Sheldon, he managed to rescue the horse from possible hypothermia and ultimately death.

“She got out, shook off, loved on us for a few minutes as a thank you and walked off assuring us that she was ok,” Hill wrote.

The post has been shared over 12,000 times and has over 25,000 likes. Hill, also a victim of the Camp fire, has created Venmo to help him recover. If you'd like to donate, click here.

“I don't usually ever ask for a handout, but I've also never lost everything,” he wrote.
