A multi-vehicle collision in southwest Santa Rosa shut down a popular thoroughfare Monday afternoon, the Santa Rosa Police Department said.

Four cars were involved in the crash, reported to police at about 2:45 p.m. at Stony Point Road south of Hearn Avenue, Santa Rosa Police Sgt. Jeneane Kucker said.

Four ambulances and several fire engines were sent to the collision site, according to Redcom, the county's fire and medical dispatch center.

Stony Point between Barndance Lane and Hearn Avenue was briefly closed to traffic as a result. Officers asked people to avoid the area as they investigated the crash, a police department press release said. The road was reopened shortly before 4 p.m.
