A 31-year-old woman was struck and killed by car Monday night while crossing Highway 53 in Clearlake.

Lake County authorities identified her Tuesday as Bernadette Marie Patrick of Clearlake.

The collision happened at about 7:50 p.m. Monday, Clearlake Police Sgt. Tim Hobbs said. The driver, Michael Jefferson, 28, of Clearlake, was going south on the four-lane highway in a brown 1995 Nissan Maxima when he struck Patrick just of Lakeshore Drive, police said.

Patrick was walking west across the highway. Hobbs said there were no crosswalks or sidewalks in the area. Patrick died at the crash site.

Officers do not believe Jefferson was impaired by drugs or alcohol at the time of the collision, Hobbs said. Jefferson stopped and cooperated with police.

The crash remains under investigation. No other details were available.
