Snow falls on Mount Saint Helena

Snow has been spotted on Mount Saint Helena. Is it snowing where you live?|

Starting the week off with intermittent showers and lows in the 30s, Sonoma County is finally witnessing the winter rains it's been waiting for. But some cities are already getting more than they bargained for, as several areas are experiencing snowfall.

Snow fell on Mount St. Helena in the Mayacamas Mountains straddling Sonoma, Napa and Lake counties on Monday with more on the way at higher elevations. A winter weather advisory is in effect for the Bay Area, according to the National Weather Service, due to snow accumulations in the East Bay Hills, North Bay Mountains and Santa Cruz Mountains.

NWS states local areas above 2,000 feet are forecast to receive 4-8 inches of snow, and the North Bay may see a mix of rain and snow late tonight through Tuesday.

The coldest temperatures of the season are forecast with snow possible in the North Bay hills as low as 1,500 feet through early Tuesday, according to NWS meteorologist Drew Peterson.

Thunderstorms are possible into Tuesday, warned Peterson. More rain is expected later in the week.
