Santa Rosa police said Thursday they arrested a man early Tuesday morning after he allegedly fired a gun from his car into a moving vehicle on Highway 12 and then crashed.

The suspect was identified by police as Aman Tesfay Berhe, 34, of Santa Rosa. According to police, Tesfay has “an extensive criminal and gang history.”

Police received a report of someone shooting into an occupied vehicle at the overpass of Stony Point Road and Highway 12 at 5:08 a.m. Tuesday, police said. As they searched for the vehicle, it crashed at the intersection of Highway 12 and Merced Avenue, and police arrested Tesfay at the scene, they said.

Jail records show Tesfay is being held in Sonoma County Jail on an extensive list of charges, including allegedly discharging a firearm at an inhabited dwelling or vehicle. His bail is set at $805,000.
