Sebastopol’s Ives Pool to reopen Monday

Ives Pool in Sebastopol will reopen Monday after remaining closed for most of the past month due to a broken heater, officials said.

The public pool serves much of rural west and northwest Sonoma County, hosting about 85,000 visitors a year, and is usually open year-round, including holidays, pool manager Ricardo Freitas said.

But the heater began malfunctioning off and on in November and eventually was deemed a safety risk, forcing the pool to shut down last month, Freitas said.

A new heater had to be ordered and was installed by Wednesday, allowing the temperature to get warmed up to normal by Monday.

The pool, owned by the city of Sebastopol and operated by a nonprofit, reopens at 6:15 a.m.
