A Lake County man sustained major injuries Friday after crashing his car into a tree while under the influence of drugs, according to the CHP.

Jerry Thorpe, 47, of Nice, was driving a red 1994 Acura Integra west on Highway 20 shortly before 5 a.m. near Lucerne when he crashed into a tree, the agency said in a press release. Officers later determined the vehicle was stolen, and Thorpe was under the influence of drugs at the time of the crash, according to the release.
