CHP: 3 seriously injured in weekend DUI crashes

Two serious weekend accidents were caused by driving under the influence, according to the CHP.

On Saturday about 1 a.m. Joshua Eugene Vincent Cox, 37, of Windsor, was driving a 2016 Dodge Challenger north on Old Redwood Highway in Windsor at a “high rate of speed” when he crashed into a guardrail, mile marker and sign, ending in a creek.

Neither Cox nor his passenger, Steven Andrew Delucchi, 24, of Santa Rosa, was wearing seatbelts, the release said.

Both were taken to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital, Cox with life-threatening injuries and Delucchi with major injuries, according to a CHP release that gave two different spellings of Delucchi’s last name.

Cox was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.

On Sunday about 8:25 a.m., Daniel Wade Shaw, 50, of Santa Rosa, was driving his 2004 Ford F-250 west on Mark West Springs Road when he veered off the road, striking a stop sign, utility pole, tree and fence. A 20-year-old and 11-year-old in his truck were uninjured, the release said, but Shaw was taken to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The road was closed for about six hours Sunday.

Shaw was booked on suspicion of driving under the influence and child endangerment.

Santa Rosa-area CHP officers made 22 arrests for driving under the influence over St. Patrick’s Day weekend.
