Santa Rosa's homeless shelters were in "critical need" of food, the city says.

Food normally donated to the city's shelters has been diverted to fire evacuation shelters leaving pantries close to bare.

"Members of our community who were experiencing homelessness before the fires are in need of food at this time," the city wrote in a Saturday Facebook post. "Much of the food normally donated to the City's homeless shelters has been diverted to local fire shelters, leaving the homeless shelters in critical need."

St. Vincent de Paul is accepting donations of unprepared foods at its 610 Wilson Street location, 8 a.m.-3 p.m. The food will be distributed to shelters throughout the city.

Fires have destroyed several thousand structures in Sonoma County.
