Marijuana business tax approved by Cotati voters

Cotati voters on Tuesday approved a special tax on marijuana-related businesses, such as dispensaries and commercial cultivation operations, that could generate an estimated $300,000 annually.

Measure G called for a levy of up to $25 per square foot of cultivation space or up to 8 percent of gross receipts. The measure is comparable to marijuana business levies in the area.

Nearly 79 percent of voters supported the measure, according to preliminary results. All ballots were cast by mail.

While the measure does not green-light any new marijuana businesses, it does authorize the imposition of the tax on future cannabis businesses.
