Santa Rosa police arrest man, 19, in thefts of rifles from homes

A teenager was arrested for stealing four rifles from one Santa Rosa home and a fifth rifle, electronics and personal items from yet another residence, Santa Rosa police said on Saturday.

The burglary on the 2000 block of Firwood Avenue was reported around 9:30 a.m. on Friday, after the resident, who was home at the time of the burglary, confronted the suspects.

The suspects fled, and witnesses led police to the 1500 block of Yardley Street in Santa Rosa. There, the officers found a vehicle in the driveway that matched the vehicle from the Firwood Avenue burglary. One suspect fled the residence and was detained by officers at a nearby park.

The officers searched the vehicle and found evidence linking the car to the 2300 block of Teasdale Lane, where an unreported burglary was discovered. A rifle, electronics and personal items had been taken from that home. Altogether, officers recovered five firearms from the two residences.

The subject who is suspected of fleeing the home, Christopher Ortiz, 19 of Santa Rosa, was booked at the Sonoma County Jail on suspicion of burglary, possession of stolen property, violation of felony probation, weapons violations and gang enhancements, said Sergeant Phil Brazis in a statement.
