A 47-year-old man suspected of stabbing another man last week near Santa Rosa’s Prince Memorial Greenway was arrested Wednesday, after leading officers on a pursuit and triggering a school lockdown, police said.

Damon John Walker, 47, was spotted by an officer about 10:15 a.m. Wednesday on Apollo Way near Cook Middle School, the Santa Rosa Police Department said in a news release. The officer knew Walker, who’s homeless, from prior contacts and believed he was the suspect in the Sept. 6 stabbing of another homeless man near Railroad Street.

When the officer approached him, Walker jumped on a bicycle and fled, police said. He then abandoned the bike and jumped over fences in the neighborhood. As more officers arrived, Walker was spotted walking onto the athletic field at the middle school, then in lockdown.

He was arrested and booked into Sonoma County Jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon. Bail was set at $30,000.
