Santa Rosa rock climber Kevin Jorgeson has completed the toughest portions of the Dawn Wall route on El Capitan in Yosemite National Park.

'Did the last 5.14 pitch today,' Jorgeson said in an email to the Press Democrat on Saturday evening. 'I have three more pitches of 5.13 to catch up to tommy at wino tower. Hoping to do them (Sunday) but could take two days.'

In the Yosemite Decimal System, segments in the 5.14 category are considered among the most difficult in the sport. Jorgeson knocked off Pitch 15, rated 5.14d, on Friday after several failed attempts, and added pitches 16 and 17 on Saturday. The rest of the Dawn Wall consists of sections of rock rated 5.12 and 5.13.

Jorgeson's climbing partner, Tommy Caldwell, is already two-thirds of the way up the 3,000-foot granite monolith.
