Santa Rosa JC rallied from 15 points down in the second half to defeat Sacramento City College, 30-29, in a nonconference game Saturday night at Bailey Field.

It was the third year in a row the Bear Cubs have rallied late to defeat the Panthers.

Andros Pedroza, a freshman from Santa Rosa High, kicked a 22-yard field goal with 10:34 remaining for what turned out to be the game-winning points.

SRJC trailed 29-14 with 7:08 remaining in the third quarter.

A 10-yard touchdown pass from Vince Jefferies to Dominic Drew started the comeback.

That was followed by an 83-yard scoring pass from Jefferies to LaRenzo Sterling. The Bear Cubs went for a two-point conversion, but came up short.

The teams traded possessions after Pedroza’s field goal and Santa Rosa got the ball with 4:55 remaining. Moving the ball on the ground, the Bear Cubs ran the clock down to 14 seconds. Sacramento took over at its 8-yard line but was unable to move down the field.

Quarterback Jefferies threw for four touchdowns while completing 30 of 45 passes for 424 yards.

Wide receiver Kerr Johnson, Jr., who played high school ball at Analy, had a big night. He caught six passes for 165 yards and two touchdowns.

Ja’Narrick James, another former Analy player, was the game’s leading rusher with 96 yards on 19 carries.
