Santa Rosa JC’s football team became bowl eligible after defeating Foothill, 50-13, in Los Altos Hills on Saturday afternoon.

The victory puts the Bear Cubs at 3-1 in the Bay 6 Conference and 6-3 overall. They wind up the regular season next Saturday with a home game against Diablo Valley.

Winless Foothill was no match for SRJC as the visitors led 13-0 after one quarter and 40-6 at halftime.

The Bear Cubs defense dominated and blocked three punts. Jaise Griffey got his hands on two and Keith Benjamin had the other. Griffey returned one punt for a touchdown.

A pair of former Analy stars, Ja’Narrick James and Kerr Johnson, Jr., scored touchdowns for Santa Rosa. James found the end zone following a 37-yard run while Johnson and quarterback Vince Jefferies hooked up on a 55-yard TD.

Andros Pedroza, who attended Santa Rosa High, kicked three field goals.

“We had our starters out of the game early,” coach Lenny Wagner said. “It was good to get a lot of players on the field.”

Among the non-starters that made the most of their playing time were offensive lineman Kyle Davis (Windsor), running back Zach Smith (Fort Bragg) and quarterback Mitch Hood (Sonoma Valley).

Smith led his team in rushing yards with 61. James finished with 48 on five carries.

Johnson was the leading receiver with two catches good for 61 yards.
