Marcelo Bautista was fired as Montgomery High’s football coach Thursday evening and will be replaced on an interim basis by athletic director Dean Haskins.

“Unfortunately, Mr. Bautista has been released as football coach,” principal Randy Burbank said. “Because it’s a personnel matter, I can’t discuss details.”

Bautista will continue his teaching duties at the school.

Burbank said the remainder of the Montgomery coaching staff is staying on and will be on the sidelines tonight when the Vikings host Cardinal Newman.

This will be Haskins’ second stint as head football coach. He was at the helm before hiring Bautista three years ago.

This season, the Vikings opened the season with three nonleague victories. However, they go into the Newman game having lost three consecutive North Bay League contests.

Bautista was named Montgomery’s coach before the 2014 season. His teams had a total record of 5-12 in league play, 10-16 overall.
