CHP officers arrested 29 people suspected of drunken driving over the weekend, CHP officials said Monday.
The arrests brought a seasonal total of DUI arrests to 105 since Sonoma County DUI task force officers Dec. 16 launched a targeted effort to nab drunken drivers.
An additional 35 people have been arrested on suspicion of related offenses including violating the terms of their parole or probation, CHP officials said.
The program, called the 2011 winter mobilization period, puts a special focus on apprehending dangerous drivers, serving DUI arrest warrants and conducting probation checks on habitual DUI offenders, CHP Sgt. Ken Savano said.
Officers will conduct two more checkpoints at undisclosed locations and random probation and parole checks as part of the program which continues until Jan. 2.
The program is funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
