A new ranking by Coldwell Banker reiterates what we've known all along.|

The town of Sonoma ranks as the 45th most expensive community in the U.S. in which to buy a four-bedroom, two-bath home, Coldwell Banker said Tuesday.

The real estate’s brokerage annual home listing report this year found that 13 of the nation’s 15 most expensive cities were in California. Ranking first was Newport Beach, with an average list price of $2.29 million.

Sonoma’s average price was $874,555.

For Sonoma County, only three other cities were included in the rankings. Petaluma ranked 171 with an average price of $630,378; Santa Rosa, 212th, $584,419; and Rohnert Park, 500th, $438,254.

Coldwell Banker called the report “the most extensive home price comparison tool” for the U.S., with average list prices for more than 2,700 markets. The most affordable city in the nation was Cleveland, with an average list price of $74,502.
