Santa Rosa police ID Marin County man slain at motel
A Marin County man shot to death during what police described as a drug transaction at a Santa Rosa hotel room was identified Tuesday as 21-year-old Max Weinreb.
But the person or people who met with Weinreb at the Vagabond Inn on Cleveland Avenue Sunday evening for a marijuana sale were still unknown, Santa Rosa Police Sgt. Dave Linscomb said.
Weinreb’s family Tuesday offered a reward of up to $5,000 for information that leads to the arrest of suspects in the case, Linscomb said.
After gunfire rang out at about 7:40 p.m. Sunday, several witnesses told police they saw two men leave quickly in a cherry-red car, Linscomb said. Some said the car appeared to be a 2-door coupe.
An autopsy conducted Tuesday confirmed that Weinreb died from a gunshot wound to the chest, Linscomb said.
Police were still investigating whether surveillance images, hotel check-in information or other details might help them track down suspects in the case.
“Right now we are working on leads, trying to make a case,” Linscomb said.
Anyone with information about the case can call the Santa Rosa Police Department violent crimes unit at 543-3590.
