Here’s where to party on St. Patrick’s Day in Sonoma County

You don't have to be Irish to party on St. Patrick's Day. Here's where to go around Sonoma County.|

St. Patrick’s Day is upon us once again. What began in the 17th century as a day of religious feast in observance of Ireland’s patron saint is now a full-fledged, holiday hoopla of Irish bagpipes, corned beef and green-colored beer.

By the luck of the Irish we’ve found some of the best places in Sonoma County this year to wear green and celebrate:

St. Patrick’s Day at Whiskey Tip - Local promoter Jake Ward has developed a reputation for hosting exciting and lively events around Sonoma County. Ward teams up with the Whiskey Tip in Santa Rosa to host a night of burlesque, variety show and silent disco. If the traditional holiday route of guzzling green beverages in an Irish pub doesn’t sound appealing this year, then head over to the Whiskey Tip for a fresh take on an old tradition.

Details: 7 p.m. to 2 a.m. March 17, Whiskey Tip, 1910 Sebastopol Road, Santa Rosa. $25. 21 and up. Information: https://www.facebook.com/events/1984443515207195/

The Black Brothers Band at Occidental Center for the Arts - The charismatic scions of Ireland’s famous singing Black Family, Michael and Shay Black, bring their band of talented performers to Occidental for a night of lively Dublin street songs, music-hall songs and historical ballads with their trademark close harmony and superb musicianship. The group sprinkles in the charm of infectious humor and witty stories, sing-along choruses and up-tempo reels.

Rock N Moss at the Arlene Francis Center - Ditch the bagpipes and violins for the guitar-shredding, blues rock of Dylan Black. The heavy, hard-driving rock of ENegative and the uproarious, epic-rock of MSG. The events also features the long-awaited debut of the rock band Smoked and the country rock/alt punk music of Flat Broke and Busted. Come on an empty stomach or become “green” with envy as you watch others fill up on beer, corned beef sliders and snacks. Party like you just heard that St. Patrick drove all the snakes out of Ireland and keep on shamrockin’ in the USA
