Ten days of fun

Friday, Aug. 15
Movies at Howarth Park: Every Friday starting with this one, Howarth Park is pulling out the big screen and showing free movies on their huge park lawn. Those with blankets will get to sit up front, while those with chairs will be seated in the back or on the sides. This Friday's feature is The Lego Movie, and will begin at dusk, around 7:30 p.m. Come early, and you can enjoy a craft activity for kids, live performances, and grab snacks for the movie. For more information, visit srcity.org.

Friday, Aug. 15
Peter Welker Sextet: The popular jazz musician and his band will be performing at Graffiti Restaurant in Petaluma with special guests, two time Grammy winner Bill Champlin and actress/singer Gloria Loring. Formerly the lead singer of Chicago, you may be familiar with some of the songs Champlin has penned, including "Turn Your Love Around" and "In The Heat Of The Night." And having helped compose the theme songs to "The Facts of Life" and "Diff'rent Strokes," Loring has many claims to musical fame – but many still know her as Robin Thicke's mom. All of these talented folks will be performing live from 6-8 p.m. Get all the details at peterwelker.com or at graffitipetaluma.com.

Aug. 15 & 16
The Music of the Night: Grab a picnic dinner and a warm blanket to enjoy this truly spectacular show under the stars at Jack London State Historic Park in Glen Ellen. The Transcendence Theater will present an evening of singing, music, and dancing, traversing everything from Broadway classics to popular hits. Tickets start at $42. The pre-show picnic begins at 5 p.m., and the concert in the winery ruins starts at 7:30 p.m. For more details, visit transcendencetheatre.org.
