Geyserville fire chief rescues man, 88, from under ATV

An 88-year-old man pinned under an ATV at a Geyserville ranch was rescued Saturday evening after the fire chief was able to lift the vehicle off him.

Emergency crews received a call just before 5 p.m. that a man was trapped at 22888 Walling Road. The address is the home of Taylor Vineyards, a 26-acre vineyard at the northern end of the Dry Creek Valley.

When firefighters from the Geyserville Protection District arrived, the terrain where the accident happened was too steep for an engine to reach the victim, explained Lt. James Tovani.

So Fire Chief Marshall Turbeville drove his pickup up to the location and was able to lift the ATV off the man's leg, Tovani explained.

'He was very fortunate,' Tovani said.

The Sonoma County Sheriff's Office helicopter, Henry 1, helped move the man a short distance to an awaiting ambulance, which took him to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital. His injuries were not life threatening, Tovani said.

The name of the victim was not released, but the vineyard is owned by 88-year-old Patrick Taylor and his wife, Eivor.
