Fire near Ukiah fully contained after burning 62 acres

The blaze initially threatened structures Sunday, but firefighters successfully beat fire back.|

A fire burning south of Ukiah was fully contained Monday after scorching 62 acres of grass and oak land in steep terrain and threatening structures, according to Cal Fire.

The fire was reported at about 4:10 p.m. Sunday, about nine miles south of Ukiah near Nelson Ranch Road, west of Highway 101.

Flames were closing in on structures in the first few hours but firefighters had that threat mitigated by about 8 p.m. Sunday, according to Cal Fire.

About 50 people fought the blaze Monday, with five engines and other equipment.

The cause remained under investigation.
