Cement truck crash blocks Monte Rio road for hours

A cement truck driver lost control of his vehicle Tuesday afternoon on a narrow Monte Rio road, flipping the truck onto its side and obstructing the rural route for hours.

No one was hurt in the crash, Monte Rio Fire Chief Steve Baxman said Wednesday.

The 1:50 p.m. crash occurred on Duncan Road at Santa Rosa Avenue - skinny lanes that wind along the Monte Rio hills just above the Russian River. The road is the only route available to a handful of residents, who were blocked from exiting or entering their neighborhood for about five hours, Baxman said.

The chief said he believed the driver was part of a crew pouring cement in the area for new cellphone towers. The driver was on his third trip on the hill when the truck overturned.

By Tuesday evening, a Sonoma County roads crew with a loader pushed the vehicle off to the side, clearing the lane, said Rob Silva, county roads maintenance director.
