Man, 19, injured in Santa Rosa assault, carjacking

One teen has been arrested in Saturday’s carjacking and beating of a young man and Santa Rosa detectives are looking for others involved, according to police.|

Santa Rosa police are investigating a carjacking involving a 19-year-old who was pulled from his vehicle and beaten by males who then stole his car.

Detectives have arrested a 17-year-old suspected of participating in the incident but still are looking for others, Santa Rosa Sgt. Dave Linscomb said.

The crime occurred at about 5:15 a.m. Saturday on Exeter Drive in west Santa Rosa.

The victim, a Santa Rosa resident, walked to a nearby home for help. He was taken to a hospital for blunt force injuries to his head and was expected to survive.

The victim apparently knew his attackers, and the carjacking and assault weren’t considered random, said Linscomb, who supervises violent crime investigations in the city.

Police later Saturday found the stolen vehicle on Piner Creek Drive and College Avenue, where it had been involved in a crash and abandoned.

The Santa Rosa teen was arrested later Saturday. He was taken to Sonoma County’s juvenile detention facility.

Exeter Drive is between Jennings and West College avenues.

Linscomb asked anyone with information to call detectives at 707-543-3590.
