The CHP in Lake County is investigating a crash that killed a Hidden Valley Lake resident Saturday on Highway 175 near Middletown.

The victim, a 51-year-old man, had been riding west on the rural highway at about 4:30 p.m. when he lost control of his Super Hawk 1998 Honda motorcycle. The bike slid into the opposing lane and the path of a 2002 Chrysler Sebring driven by a 62-year-old Cobb man, according to the CHP.

The driver of the car wasn't injured. The CHP on Monday didn't release the name of the motorcycle rider or the driver.

The crash happened just west of Socrates Mine Road. The rider had entered a right turn when he lost control. The driver attempted to avoid the bike, but couldn’t and the motorcycle hit the front of the car.

According to a CHP report, the driver had been traveling at about 25-30 mph but it wasn’t known how fast the motorcycle rider was going.

Cobb Cal Fire firefighters responded to the call and attempted to revive the man, who died at the scene.
