Pretending to be interested in jewelry at a Sebastopol Road shop, a man dressed all in black then flashed a handgun and held up a store clerk, grabbing several pieces of jewelry and fleeing, according to a Sonoma County sheriff’s official.

Detectives this week released a surveillance photo of the man, hoping to generate leads in the investigation.

The man walked into Furniture 2000 on Monday at about 4:20 p.m. and began looking at jewelry on display at a store inside the furniture store in Santa Rosa. He engaged a clerk in conversation before showing that he was carrying a gun, sheriff’s Sgt. Cecile Focha said.

The robber demanded some of the jewelry, took several pieces and left the store. Deputies searched but found no sign of the man.

The robber was described as Latino, in his late 20s, with a slight mustache. He was dressed in black from head to toe and wore a hat with white lettering.

Focha asked anyone with information to contact the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office investigations tip line at (707) 565-2185. The phone takes messages anytime, and callers can remain anonymous.
