A man who police said was shot while attempting a Santa Rosa home-invasion robbery in which his accomplice was killed by the home’s occupant is recovering and now faces murder and other charges, lawyers said Monday.

Fidencio Bocanegra Reyes, 24, was shot alongside Pablo Reyes-Martinez, 22, after police said the two broke down an Acacia Lane door with a sledgehammer Feb. 23 and exchanged gunfire with a man inside.

Bocanegra was hospitalized with what were initially described as life-threatening injuries. He survived. Reyes-Martinez died of multiple gunshot wounds, an autopsy concluded.

Based on the death, Bocanegra and a third man, Miguel Junior Flores, 36, of Cloverdale are charged with murder, conspiracy, attempted robbery, shooting into an occupied house and burglary.

Bocanegra will be released from a hospital this week and held at the county jail. Flores remains in custody.

They will appear before a judge March 23.

The man who shot Bocanegra and Reyes-Martinez, Acacia Lane resident Manuel Garcia, 25, is being held on child endangerment and drug charges. His neighbor, Rolando Ramirez-Ruiz, 23, has been arraigned on drug and firearms charges.

Police believe the two were partners in a marijuana business.
