A 36-year-old Windsor man suspected of drunken driving with two children in the car was in custody Thursday at the Sonoma County Jail, authorities said.

One of the children, a three year old, was lying across the back seat, asleep, and not in a car seat, CHP Officer Kerri Post said.

Luis Fabian Cuervo was arrested late Wednesday on suspicion of DUI and child endangerment after the traffic stop on southbound Highway 101 in Windsor, Post said.

An officer observed Cuervo's rented Chevrolet Aveo traveling at about 80 mph just after 10 p.m. near Shiloh Avenue, Post said. Cuervo pulled over at the River Road park-and-ride lot, and it was then that the officer noticed the children, she said.

The children were released to other family members.

The vehicle was towed.
