Wanted Santa Rosa man arrested after alcohol-related crash on Highway 12

The CHP said a Santa Rosa man who was wanted on two outstanding arrest warrants is suspected of fleeing the scene of an alcohol-related crash on Highway 12 west of Santa Rosa on Tuesday night.

Suspect Rico Nicolas Landero, 29, also was driving with a suspended license when he allegedly clipped one car during an aborted effort to pass it Tuesday evening and then struck a second car parked on the side of the road shortly before 7 p.m., authorities said.

Women in both vehicles were injured, and Landero reportedly bailed from his car near Merced Avenue and ran into a nearby neighborhood, the CHP said.

At least one victim, Mariah Martin, 20, was taken to Palm Drive Hospital in Sebastopol with minor to moderate injuries, the CHP said.

Santa Rosa resident Sandra Schmidt, the driver of an Audi TT who was ahead of Landero when he tried to pass, suffered minor injuries, the CHP said.

As officers searched the area for Landero, a woman reported seeing him in his yard, and he was apprehended, the CHP said.

Landero, also known as Nicolas Landero-Rico and Pedro Ojeda-Camacho, was believed to be under the influence of alcohol and was arrested for suspicion of drunken driving, hit and run and driving with a suspended license, the CHP said.

He was being held at the Sonoma County Jail without bail because of outstanding warrants related to a prior DUI case and other charges involving domestic violence and possession of a controlled substance, authorities said.
