A 28-year-old Ukiah man suffered multiple stab wounds Tuesday night when he was attacked while walking along South State Street, police said Wednesday.

The attack occurred about 8 p.m. outside the Express Mart near Luce Avenue, Sgt. Cedric Crook said.

A vehicle described by witnesses as an older blue SUV pulled alongside the man and a number of male suspects got out and began stabbing the victim, Crook said.

He was flown to an undisclosed hospital with serious, but not life-threatening, injuries, Crook said.

The suspects were last seen driving east on Thomas Street, Crook said.

It was not known if the attack was gang-related, he said.
