Two vehicles collided Tuesday morning on Highway 101 north of Ukiah, seriously injuring one driver when a truck rolled off of the highway onto a roadway below, according to the CHP.

The crash was reported at 6:53 a.m. in the highway’s southbound lanes near West Road.

CHP Sgt. Wayne Danley said a small blue car and a large white Chevrolet pickup were headed south on the highway near Calpella when the car drifted into the pickup’s lane.

The two vehicles collided and both drivers lost control. The car overturned, landing across both southbound lanes, Danley said.

The truck veered to the right and overturned off of the highway, dropping about 6 feet to North State Street, which runs parallel to the highway.

The truck landed on its passenger side and Redwood Valley firefighters cut the driver free from the wreckage, fire Chief Don Dale said.

The driver suffered major injuries and was flown to Enloe Hospital in Chico, Danley said. The car driver had minor injuries.

The cause of the crash remained under investigation.

The crash closed North State Street for about 50 minutes, then was opened to one-way traffic and opened completely by about 8:20 a.m.
