Man arrested after fleeing Rohnert Park crash scene

A driver from Vallejo was arrested Tuesday night after fleeing the scene of a car crash he was involved in, the CHP said.

According to statements gathered by the CHP, Caiphus Bailey, 25, was driving a Lexus sedan north on Labath Avenue in Rohnert Park at about 45 mph when he ran a stop sign at Millbrae Avenue. Another vehicle, headed west through the same intersection, ran into him, CHP Officer Jon Sloat said.

Both vehicles received moderate damage and neither Bailey nor the driver and passenger in the other vehicle, from Cotati, were injured.

An officer responding to the 9:50 p.m. crash, found Bailey about 200 feet from the crash. When she started to question him, he fled on foot toward the nearby Wal-Mart, Sloat said.

Another officer helped find Bailey in a parking lot near Outback Steakhouse. They determined that Bailey was on probation from Solano County and had a suspended license because of negligent vehicle operation as well as four prior convictions for driving with a suspended license, Sloat said. He was booked into jail on suspicion of driving while suspended, violation of probation and hit and run.
