Santa Rosa is using a new logo and catchphrase - Roseland Blooms - as a way to better market its efforts to annex Roseland.

The city revealed the logo on its Roseland annexation Web page recently and will be incorporating it into future fliers and other literature about the effort, city planner Jessica Jones said.

The logo is a purple rose - similar to the official city logo that is a nod to famed botanist Luther Burbank - with “Roseland” on top, “Blooms” on the bottom and “Florece,” which is Spanish for “blooms,” on the right.

The logo was designed by the city’s consultant on the project, Pacific Municipal Consultants, with guidance from the annexation effort’s steering committee.

The goal of the logo is to help people identify the two distinct but related efforts underway as part of the Roseland annexation effort.

One is the actual process of bringing five separate county islands, mostly in the city’s southwest area, under city governance. About 6,400 people live in the 620-acre unincorporated area of Roseland, while another nearly 600 live in four other smaller pockets around Brittain Lane, Victoria Drive, West Hearn Avenue and West Third Street.

The second effort is a large land-use planning process covering 1,800 acres that aims to create a cohesive community vision for the future of the area and improve transportation options for residents.

The next community meetings are expected to take place in September, with dates to be announced, Jones said.
