Masked robbers pistol-whip clerk at west Santa Rosa store

Police were searching for two men who, armed with a gun and bat, stole cash from a Santa Rosa convenience store late Thursday.|

Armed with a baseball bat and gun, two masked robbers demanded cash at a west Santa Rosa convenience store late Thursday, hitting a clerk in the head with a handgun before getting away with the money, police officials said.

Sgt. Jonathan Wolf said Friday police were still looking for the suspects. The suspects wore masks, gloves and other clothing that obscured their features.

Surveillance cameras recorded the robbery, reported at 10:38 p.m. Thursday at the Quick Pick Market and Deli on Corporate Center Parkway off Sebastopol Road, Wolf said.

A man with a gun and another masked person, whose gender was unclear, had a baseball bat and backpack.

The man pointed the handgun at the clerk, then hit the clerk in the head and the clerk fell to the ground, Wolf said. He ordered the clerk to open the cash drawer and the clerk complied.

The unknown robber grabbed the cash and put it in the backpack. The pair fled on foot, heading east, Wolf said.

The clerk suffered a minor head injury due to the blow and was treated by paramedics at the scene, according to Wolf. There were no customers in the store at the time of the robbery.

The man with the gun was described as standing between five-foot-7 and five-foot-10, wearing black clothing including a ski mask, pants, shoes and hooded sweatshirt with white writing ,plus white or light-colored gloves.

The person carrying the baseball bat and backpack was between 5-foot-2 and 5-foot-5 with a thin build and wore a ski mask, black hooded jacket, black pants and black and white shoes.
