Highway 1 near Bodega Bay is now open after an overturned big rig closed the road for nearly five hours Tuesday.

A big rig hauling gravel overturned on a tight turn between Bodega Bay and Salmon Creek causing a closure of the road in both directions.

The CHP received a call around 9:30 a.m. that the big rig was blocking both lanes of traffic on Highway 1 south of Bean Ave. Traffic was detoured onto Bay Hill Road. The roadway reopened just after 2 p.m.

A big rig tow truck and a dump truck to clean up spilled gravel were dispatched to the scene, the CHP said. There were no injuries, and the big rig was the only vehicle involved in the accident, according to the CHP.
