Schulz inducted into California Hall of Fame

“Peanuts” creator Charles M. Schulz was inducted into the California Hall of Fame on Wednesday night, joining a star-studded group of eight Californians honored for their contributions to the worlds of art, science, literature and sports.

The Santa Rosa cartoonist’s wife, Jean Schulz, accepted the Spirit of California medal on behalf of her late husband during a ceremony at the California Museum in Sacramento.

Other inductees included actor Robert Downey Jr., Olympics ice skater Kristi Yamaguchi, NBC Nightly News anchor Lester Holt, martial arts star Bruce Lee, painter David Hockney, astronaut Ellen Ochoa and country music legend Buck Owens.

Gov. Jerry Brown and first lady Anne Gust Brown presided over the ceremony, which marks the ninth anniversary of the California Hall of Fame.
