Tell Us: Are you buying a hoverboard?

Do you own a hoverboard, or have you considered buying one? The Press Democrat would like to hear from you.|

Are hoverboards on your holiday shopping list, or do you already own one?

Hoverboards, one of the most popular gifts to give for the holidays, are coming under added scrutiny with reports that some are bursting into flames or exploding.

Federal officials are investigating at least 11 reports of hoverboard fires in 10 states, including California, according to the Los Angeles Times. On Monday, one of the devices - which are also known as self-balancing scooters - caught fire in a Brentwood home.

Some airlines have banned hoverboards because of concerns their batteries can catch fire, and online retailers including Amazon and Overstock.com have pulled listings.

Staff Writer Bill Swindell is working on an article about hoverboards, and whether recent worries about the devices’ batteries are dampening people’s enthusiasm for them. If you are interested in the gadgets, or have lost interest because of the recent safety concerns, he would like to hear from you.
