Wanted man runs from Windsor police, found hiding in barn

Trying to escape Windsor police, a wanted man Wednesday morning dashed across Highway 101 toward Shiloh Road and briefly hid in a barn before he was found and arrested, according to the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office.

The man was Anthony Monda, 50, of Hercules, wanted in Contra Costa County on a no-bail warrant involving burglary and other related charges, sheriff’s Sgt. Cecile Focha said in a news release.

Windsor officers crossed paths with Monda at about 10:30 a.m. in a parking lot off of Hembree Lane. A check of the man’s car showed the owner was wanted on a warrant, Focha said.

The man took off running toward the highway when an officer began speaking to him and others he was with, Focha said.

Monda crossed the highway on foot, pursued by officers who stopped at the freeway. Others in patrol cars took up the chase and the sheriff’s helicopter also responded.

The man was seen running through a field and into a barn. He was caught there and taken into custody without issue, ending the six-minute pursuit, Focha said.

As well as being arrested on the warrant, Monda was arrested on suspicion of resisting arrest and having someone else’s identity card. He was booked into the Sonoma County Jail.
