Man, boy hurt in ATV crash north of Hopland

A Willits man suffered major injuries when the ATV he was driving rolled over and his 11-year-old passenger suffered minor injuries in the Monday incident.|

Two people were injured, one seriously, when the all-terrain vehicle they were riding on crashed on a rural road north of Hopland on Monday morning, according to the CHP.

William Jensen, 54, of Willits suffered major injuries. His passenger, an 11-year-old Redwood Valley boy, suffered minor injuries, the CHP reported.

Jensen was driving the 2012 Yamaha ATV down a steep gravel section of McNab Ranch Road at about 10 mph when the vehicle hit a dirt embankment, the CHP said. The right side of the ATV lifted off the ground, throwing the boy off the vehicle.

The ATV continued downhill, then overturned onto Jensen, the CHP said.

Jensen was flown to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital. The boy was taken by ambulance to Ukiah Valley Medical Center, treated and later released.

Neither person on the ATV was wearing a helmet. The cause of the crash remains under investigation but intoxication does not appear to be a factor, the CHP said.
