The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a body found Wednesday morning near the Lytton Springs Road exit off Highway 101.

Representatives from Catholic Charities’ Homeless Outreach Services Team and the Sheriff’s Office were looking for a homeless encampment in a nearby field when they came across the body off a dirt road, according to a Sheriff’s Office news release.

The body showed “clear signs of decomposition,” the news release said, and the coroner’s office was called. As a precaution, detectives cordoned off the area to begin an investigation.

It is unclear whether the person was associated with the encampment, but two people living there were questioned briefly by detectives, the news release said.

No other information was available.
